Summary We sought to understand how the RPE confers region-specific disease susceptibility in the retina by examining heterogeneity within human donor RPE. We profiled RPE nuclei from the macular and peripheral retina using joint single-cell RNA and ATAC sequencing.
 
Overall design RPE nuclei were isolated from macular and peripheral regions of the posterior pole from four healthy human donors. Joint profiling of nuclear chromatin and transcript abundance was performed.
