Title 16S rRNA sequencing data of ileal contents samples in goats infusion of three short-chain fatty acids
Organism Capra hircus
Experiment type Other
Summary Emerging data has highlighted the importance of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) on ruminal microbiome and derived metabolism profiling, and ruminal epithelial health and nutritional absorption in ruminants. However, little is known about the roles of SCFAs on ileal microbiome profiles. Here, we combined infusion of three SCFAs, to study their different roles in ileal microbiome succession profiling using a in vivo goat model.

Overall design A total of 24 healthy female goats (47.44 ± 3.38 kg, 1.5 years old) were selected in our study. All goats were commenced on a standard diet and were fed 2 times a day1. Goats were housed individually in their tie stalls and had free access to water and feed. After ad libitum for 14 days continuous stable feeding, goats were randomly assigned to 4 groups (n = 6/group) to receive different infusion treatments. Goats in CON group received normal saline infusion at 0.8 g/kg body weight (BW) as normal control group, while in SA group received sodium acetate infusion at 0.8 g/kg BW, in SP group received sodium propionate infusion at 0.8 kg/kg BW, and in SB group received sodium butyrate infusion at 0.5 kg/kg BW. Total volume of 1 L infusion solutions was slowly perfused through oral daily before morning feeding of each goat, and the infusion lasted for 12 days. After slaughter, the ileal contents samples were immediately collected and stored at -80 °C for microbiome analysis.
