Sample GSM136526 Query DataSets for GSM136526
Status Public on Jun 05, 2007
Title Microarray analysis of NL and PCOS oocytes (NL6)
Sample type RNA

Source name MII arrested oocyte
Organism Homo sapiens
Characteristics MII-arrested oocyte collected from a normal ovulatory woman undergoing gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analog/ recombinant human (rh) follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) therapy for IVF due to tubal or male factor infertility. A MII oocyte was defined by one polar body in the perivitelline space and no visible nuclear structure in the cytoplasm
Extracted molecule total RNA
Extraction protocol Trizol
Label biotin

Description Previous microarray analyses have demonstrated that whole ovaries and isolated theca cells from normal and PCOS women have unique gene expression profiles. PCOS follicles have elevated androgen levels before and after GnRH analog/rhFSH therapy for IVF and contain excess amounts of insulin that are positively correlated with adiposity. Taken together, these studies suggest that the altered PCOS hormonal milieu and/or intrinsic abnormalities might alter gene expression in the PCOS oocyte which could impact oocyte developmental competence. To this end, we compared the gene expression profiles of normal and PCOS oocytes using Affymetrix microarray chips.
