RNA was extracted from tissue samples using the Qiagen RNeasy kit, following the manufacturer's recommendations. Quality and quantity were assessed using an Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer and NanoDrop 8000 spectrophotometer, respectively.

For microarray hybridization, RNA was processed for hybridization to Affymetrix Rhesus Macaque Array through a core facility in the Functional Genomics Laboratory in the Center for Ecogenetics and Environmental Health at the University of Washington according to the manufacturer's instructions.
