Treatment protocol |
For the microarray study hearts were isolated from four study groups and their respective controls: 1) hearts from C57BL/6J animals 24h after occlusion of the middle cerebral artery, 2) hearts from C57BL/6J animals 72h after occlusion of the middle cerebral artery, 3) hearts from C57BL/6J animals, 24h after sham operation and 4) hearts from C57BL/6J 72h after sham operation.

Growth protocol |
The study was performed with 8 weeks old C57BL/6J animals, exposed to either sham operation or occlusion of the medial cerebral artery. All mice had free access to food and water. Hearts were isolated 24h and 72h after occlusion of the medial cerebral artery. As control, age matched sham operated C57BL/6J mice were used.

Data processing |
The data were analyzed with a commercial software called JMP Genomics, version 7, from SAS. Gene expression profiling was performed using arrays of mouse Mogene-2_0-type from Affymetrix. Additional analysis was performed with R and HOMER (transcription factor binding motif finder)
