The animals had undergone sham surgery where a suture was loosely tied around a coronary artery without occluding it. After 3 weeks the hearts were harvested and perfused with Ca2+-free solution for 5 min to wash out the blood in the heart. Tissue samples were snap frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored at -80 ̊C.

Total RNA was isolated and purified from 20-30 mg of tissue with either Zymo Direct-zol RNA Miniprep Kit (R2061) or Qiagen RNeasy Mini Kit (74104).
Stranded RNA sequencing libraries were prepared as described using the Illumina TruSeq Stranded Total RNA Kit with Ribo-Zero Gold (RS-122-2301 and RS-122-2302).

Reads were aligned to the Oryctolagus cuniculus genome assembly OryCun2.0 (GCA_000003625.1) with Spliced Transcripts Alignment to a Reference (STAR) software
DESeq2 was used to normalize counts.
