Cells were washed twice with cold PBS before dissolved in trizol. Total RNA isolation was performed following mirVana miRNA isolation kit total RNA extraction protocol.

Data was processed using the Bioconductor package affy using RMA normalization using the command expresso(raw_data, bgcorrect.method=rma, normalize=TRUE, pmcorrect.method=pmonly, summary.method=medianpolish). This was followed by loess normalization to ERCC spike ins.
