Hybridization protocol The labeled RNA samples were hybridized to the LNA-enhanced miRCURY™ microarray version 11.0 (Exiqon, Denmark), which contained capture probes targeting all human miRNAs registered in miRBASE version 13.0 at the Sanger Institute at the time of the analysis. The hybridization was performed according to the miRCURY™ LNA array manual using a Tecan HS4800 hybridization station (Tecan, Austria).
Scan protocol After hybridization, washing and drying, the microarray slides were scanned in an Agilent G2565BA Microarray Scanner System (Agilent Technologies, Inc., USA) and the resulting images were quantified by ImaGene v.8.0 software (BioDiscovery, Inc., USA).
Data processing The quantified signals were background corrected (Normexp with offset value 10)3 and normalized using the global LOWESS (LOcally WEighted Scatterplot Smoothing) regression algorithm.
