Olfactory third antennal segments were harvested via snap-freezing adult flies with liquid nitrogen and agitating the animals in a mini-sieve. Collected antennae were homogenized manually with a tissue grinder and total RNA was extracted using a standard TRIzol/chloroform protocol.
