Total RNA was isolated from 20 uterine tissue and 20 ovarian tissues samples with TRIzol (Invitrogen, Carlsbad, CA, USA) according to the manufacturer’s protocol. The RNA concentration, purity and integrity were calculated and checked by a NanoDrop 2000 spectrophotometer (Thermo Scientific, Wilmington, DE, USA) and an Agilent 5400 Bioanalyzer (Agilent, Santa Clara, CA).
miRNA sequencing libraries were prepared for sequencing using standard Illumina protocols.

The raw reads were filtered using Cutadapt 1.16.
Using the Bowtie 1.0.1 filter out repeated sequences and ncRNAs based on RepeatMasker and Rfam. Next, clean reads were aligned to the reference genome (Capra hircus, ARS1.2) using BLAST 2.7.1.
MiRNAs were identified using miREvo 1.1 and miRDeep2 2.0.0.7.
MiRNA expression levels were normalized with RSEM 1.3.0
