Pieces of muscle weighing approximately 20 g were homogenized in Trizol reagent. Total RNA was then extracted following the manufacturers recommended procedures and further purified on RNAeasy columns (Qiagen) then quantified by absorbance at 260 nm. RNA integrity numbers were greater than 8.0 for all samples.
