Treatment protocol Tissue was transferred either into microtubes and immediately frozen with liquid nitrogen. It was then preserved at -80°C before RNA extraction.
Growth protocol The whole heart from neonatal animals was obtained immediately after euthanasia.
Extracted molecule total RNA
Extraction protocol miRNeasy kit (Qiagen) was used for extraction of total RNA and microRNA according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Label biotin
Label protocol 100ng of total RNA was prepared for hybridisation according to the standard Affymetrix protocol (GeneChip® Whole Transcript (WT) Sense Target Labeling Assay Manual, version 4, Affymetrix).
 
Hybridization protocol After fragmentation, ssDNA was hybridized for 17 hr at 45°C to GeneChip Human Gene 1.0 ST Arrays. Chips were washed and stained in the Affymetrix GeneChip® Fluidics Stations 450. For all these steps, the GeneChip Hybridization, Wash, and Stain Kit (Affymetrix) was used according to manufacturer’s recommendations (GeneChip® Whole Transcript (WT) Sense Target Labelling Assay Manual, version 4, Affymetrix).
Scan protocol The chips were scanned using the GeneChip® Scanner 3000 7G 4C (Affymetrix) according to manufacturer’s recommendations (GeneChip® Whole Transcript (WT) Sense Target Labelling Assay Manual, version 4, Affymetrix).
Description Gene expression from neonatal female HHR heart
Data processing The samples were individually normalized using robust-multi-array analysis (RMA) in the R application (version 2.11.1). Differentially expressed genes were identified using the moderated two-sample t-test in the Limma package.
