Treatment protocol |
Each beetle was surface washed with 95% EtOH and then washed with sterile PBS buffer. The beetles were dissected and each gut section was separated from the others, and placed in RNA later.

Each gut section was macerated and extracted using standard phenol-chloroform phase extraction, then followed by a cleanup with the AllPrep DNA/RNA kit (Qaigen).
