Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy- MedGen UID:
- 2881
- •Concept ID:
- C0007194
- •
- Disease or Syndrome
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is defined by the presence of increased ventricular wall thickness or mass in the absence of loading conditions (hypertension, valve disease) sufficient to cause the observed abnormality.
Congestive heart failure- MedGen UID:
- 9169
- •Concept ID:
- C0018802
- •
- Disease or Syndrome
The presence of an abnormality of cardiac function that is responsible for the failure of the heart to pump blood at a rate that is commensurate with the needs of the tissues or a state in which abnormally elevated filling pressures are required for the heart to do so. Heart failure is frequently related to a defect in myocardial contraction.
Failure to thrive- MedGen UID:
- 746019
- •Concept ID:
- C2315100
- •
- Disease or Syndrome
Failure to thrive (FTT) refers to a child whose physical growth is substantially below the norm.
Hepatomegaly- MedGen UID:
- 42428
- •Concept ID:
- C0019209
- •
- Finding
Abnormally increased size of the liver.
Macrovesicular hepatic steatosis- MedGen UID:
- 373290
- •Concept ID:
- C1837256
- •
- Finding
A form of hepatic steatosis characterized by the presence of large, lipid-laden vesicles in the affected hepatocytes.
Encephalopathy- MedGen UID:
- 39314
- •Concept ID:
- C0085584
- •
- Disease or Syndrome
Encephalopathy is a term that means brain disease, damage, or malfunction. In general, encephalopathy is manifested by an altered mental state.
Global developmental delay- MedGen UID:
- 107838
- •Concept ID:
- C0557874
- •
- Finding
A delay in the achievement of motor or mental milestones in the domains of development of a child, including motor skills, speech and language, cognitive skills, and social and emotional skills. This term should only be used to describe children younger than five years of age.
Kyphosis- MedGen UID:
- 44042
- •Concept ID:
- C0022821
- •
- Anatomical Abnormality
Exaggerated anterior convexity of the thoracic vertebral column.
Myopathy- MedGen UID:
- 10135
- •Concept ID:
- C0026848
- •
- Disease or Syndrome
A disorder of muscle unrelated to impairment of innervation or neuromuscular junction.
Osteoporosis- MedGen UID:
- 14535
- •Concept ID:
- C0029456
- •
- Disease or Syndrome
Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease characterized by low bone density and microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue with a consequent increase in bone fragility. According to the WHO criteria, osteoporosis is defined as a BMD that lies 2.5 standard deviations or more below the average value for young healthy adults (a T-score below -2.5 SD).
Scoliosis- MedGen UID:
- 11348
- •Concept ID:
- C0036439
- •
- Disease or Syndrome
The presence of an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine.
Metabolic acidosis- MedGen UID:
- 65117
- •Concept ID:
- C0220981
- •
- Pathologic Function
Metabolic acidosis (MA) is characterized by a fall in blood pH due to a reduction of serum bicarbonate concentration. This can occur as a result of either the accumulation of acids (high anion gap MA) or the loss of bicarbonate from the gastrointestinal tract or the kidney (hyperchloremic MA). By definition, MA is not due to a respirary cause.
Increased serum lactate- MedGen UID:
- 332209
- •Concept ID:
- C1836440
- •
- Finding
Abnormally increased level of blood lactate (2-hydroxypropanoic acid). Lactate is produced from pyruvate by lactate dehydrogenase during normal metabolism. The terms lactate and lactic acid are often used interchangeably but lactate (the component measured in blood) is strictly a weak base whereas lactic acid is the corresponding acid. Lactic acidosis is often used clinically to describe elevated lactate but should be reserved for cases where there is a corresponding acidosis (pH below 7.35).
Retinopathy- MedGen UID:
- 11209
- •Concept ID:
- C0035309
- •
- Disease or Syndrome
Any noninflammatory disease of the retina. This nonspecific term is retained here because of its wide use in the literature, but if possible new annotations should indicate the precise type of retinal abnormality.
