Definition

A pathotype of Escherichia coli, which is a gram-negative bacteria that is transmitted through the fecal-oral route. It has an incubation period of 10-72 hours and a duration of 1-5 days. Symptoms may include acute, occasionally severe diarrhea without fever. [from NCI]
