Study: Poverty alleviation through prevention and future control of the two major socioeconomically-important pathogens in Asian aquaculture
show Abstracthide Abstract
Infection with Aphanomyces invadans also known as Epizootic Ulcerative Syndrome, is a serious disease affecting farmed and wild fishes from fresh and brackishwater habitat. Although more than 130 species of fish have been confirmed to be susceptible to this disease, some of the commercially important fish species like common carp, milk fish and tilapia are reported to be resistant. Species that are naturally resistant to a particular disease, provide a potential model to study the mechanisms of resistance against that disease. Documentation of dynamic host-pathogen interactions during the course of infection can greatly improve our knowledge in developing control measures against this pathogen. Therefore, RNAseq data was generated from kidney tissue of juvenile Cyprinus carpio following infection with A. invadans, at different time intervals. The study is intended to determine changes in immune related gene expression over time between infected and healthy C. carpio.
