Title Nanostring nCounter Bovine Arrival BRD 60 Panel v1.0

Summary The objective of this study was to corroborate the findings of previous BRD-associated transcriptome experiments, utilizing multiple independent populations of high-risk beef cattle.
 
Overall design Blood samples were utilized from 240 cattle at facility arrival, across seven independent populations. Samples were randomly selected from cattle never having received clinical treatment for bovine respiratory disease (Healthy, n=116) and those having been treated at least one time in the 28 days post-arrival (BRD, n=124). BRD samples were further stratified into disease severity cohorts, based on frequency of treatment and mortality (Treated_1, n=91; Treated_2+, n=33). Samples were profiled for mRNA expression with the NanoString nCounter SPRINT Profiler, selecting 56 genes plus four internal controls. Quality control and differential expression was analyzed with nSolver v4.0. Six samples were removed from further analysis due to poor quality assessment and/or flagged normalization values.
