Total RNA (1 µg) was amplified for the first strand cDNA synthesis using the Affymetrix one-cycle cDNA synthesis protocol. The second strand DNA synthesis, cleanup of double-stranded cDNA, and biotin-labeling of cRNA were carried out according to the Affymetrix manual. The GeneChip Cleanup module was used to purify the double-stranded cDNA and the biotin-labeled cRNA. The cRNA was quantitated using a NanoDrop ND-1000 UV-vis spectrophotometer (NanoDrop Tecnologies, Rockland, DE).

Sample cocktails (200 µl) were used for hybridizations containing 10 µg of cRNA. Microarrays were hybridized overnight, washed in a GeneChip fluidic station 450. scanned using the GeneChip Scanner 3000 as described by Affymetrix.
