Growth protocol Two Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa ssp. pekinensis) inbred lines, Chiifu and Kenshin, plants seeds were sown in the thirty two-hole tray (6x6x6cm x 32 holes) and grown for approximately 3 weeks in a growth chamber at 22℃ under 16 h light/8 h dark photoperiod with a photon flux density of 140 μmol m-2 s-1. For warming treatment, plants were subjected to 12℃ for 2 days under same photoperiod, and transferred to 28℃ for 3 h. For extreme heat shock treatment, warming-exposed plants were further incubated at 45℃ growth chamber for 3h. Samplings were performed at the end of each treatment
Extracted molecule total RNA
Extraction protocol Total and polysomal RNA was extracted using the RNeasy Mini kit (Qiagen Inc., Valencia, CA, USA) and the RNAprotect reagent (Qiagen) and DNA was removed by on-column DNase digestion with the RNase-Free DNase set (Qiagen).

Data processing The raw data (.pair file) was subjected to RMA (Robust Multi-Array Analysis; Irizarry et al. Biostatistics 4(2):249), quantile normalization (Bolstad et al. Bioinformatics 19(2):185), and background correction as implemented in the NimbleScan software package, version 2.4.27 (Roche NimbleGen, Inc.).
