The first step was to detect and remove adapter sequences with the tool FastqMcf The quality of Fastq files was checked before and after adapter clipping with FastQC Each adapter-clipped FastQ file was collapsed into the sequence and the number of appearances (using the tool “Collapse” - FastxTools http://hannonlab.cshl.edu/fastx_toolkit/) ranked by the counts The final count table contained only the sequences and the number of reads per sample Genome_build: bta3.1 Supplementary_files_format_and_content: Excel files include abundance measurements
