Aberrant splicing of cdkn1a/p21 through micro-RNA mediated downregulation of JMJD6

(Submitter supplied) Post-transcriptional modifications of tumor suppressors, including microRNA-mediated downregulation, are important events in tumor progression. To identify microRNAs involved in oncogenic transformation, we examined global microRNA profiles of three ras transgenic zebrafish models. Four microRNAs are upregulated in all transgenic systems. Analysis of the predicted targets shows that three of them target Jmjd6, and overexpression of Jmjd6 in ras transformed melanocytes blocks proliferation and melanoma development. more...

MicroRNA-146 function in the innate immune response of zebrafish embryos to Salmonella typhimurium infection [miRNA profile]

(Submitter supplied) This study reports on infection-inducible miRNAs in zebrafish. Using a custom-designed microarray platform for miRNA expression we found that miRNAs of the miR-21, miR-29, and miR-146 families were commonly induced by infection of zebrafish embryos with Salmonella typhimurium and by infection of adult fish with Mycobacterium marinum.
