Comparison of Corynebacterium glutamicum ATCC13032ΔftsR with ATCC13032

(Submitter supplied) In summary, we have identified and characterized FtsR as a transcriptional activator of the essential cell division protein FtsZ in C. glutamicum, providing a novel regulatory player in the process of cell division.

C.glutamicum Δpup mutant senses a stronger iron limitation than the wild type.

(Submitter supplied) Pupylation is a posttranslational protein modification in bacteria resembling ubiquitination in eukaryotes. The prokaryotic ubiquitin-like protein Pup is covalently attached to other proteins via an isopeptide bond between its carboxyterminal glutamate residue and a lysine residue in the target. In mycobacteria, pupylation was shown to mark proteins for unfolding by the ATPase Mpa and subsequent degradation by the proteasome. more...

Identification of a gene cluster involved in the utilization of phenylpropanoids in Corynebacterium glutamicum [set1]

(Submitter supplied) DNA microarray experiments with phenylpropanoid pulses were performed in order to get hints on expression of relevant genes or gene clusters activated in presence of phenylpropanoid compounds. We determined the relative mRNA-levels of wild-type cells confronted with phenylpropanoids and unpulsed cells. A pulsing time of 30 minutes was sufficient to find regulation of gene expression in response to the phenylpropanoid amount of 5 mM (final concentration) added. more...

A prophage encoded actin-like protein mediates viral DNA segregation/replication in bacteria [Set2]

(Submitter supplied) Active segregation of DNA in bacteria is catalyzed by cytomotive structures. Mediators of subcellular plasmid positioning are Walker-type ATPases (ParA), actin-like proteins, or tubulin homologs. These motor proteins are coupled to the DNA via adaptor proteins that recognize specific DNA motifs. Here, we describe that a temperate phage, CGP3, integrated into the genome of Corynebacterium glutamicum ATCC 13032 encodes an actin-like protein, AlpC. more...

Pupylated proteins in Corynebacterium glutamicum revealed by MudPIT analysis

(Submitter supplied) In a manner similar to ubiquitin, the prokaryotic ubiquitin-like protein (Pup) has been shown to target proteins for degradation via the proteasome in mycobacteria. However, not all actinobacteria possessing the Pup protein also harbor a proteasome, suggesting fates for pupylated proteins other than degradation via a proteasome or degradation at all. In the present study we set out to study pupylation in the proteasome-lacking non-pathogenic model microorganism and biotechnological workhorse Corynebacterium glutamicum. more...
