Tissue-enriched expression profiles in Aedes aegypti identify hemocyte-specific transcriptome responses to infection

(Submitter supplied) We present a microarray study of hemocyte-enriched transcriptome in Aedes aegypti. We directed our efforts to critically assess the transcriptomic features distinctive of hemocytes, and discussed our findings in relation to infection-responsive genes and immune-relate gene families. Specifically, our analysis examined how tissue-enriched expression patterns change with the immune status of the host, and resolved patterns of transcriptional change unique to hemocytes from those that are likely shared by other immune responsive tissues.

Dengue virus inhibits immune responses in Aedes aegypti cells

(Submitter supplied) The ability of many viruses to manipulate the host antiviral immune response often results in complex host-pathogen interactions. In order to study the interaction of dengue virus (DENV) with the Aedes aegypti immune response, we have characterized the DENV infection-responsive transcriptome of the immune-competent A. aegypti cell line Aag2. As in mosquitoes, DENV infection transcriptionally activated the cell line Toll pathway and a variety of cellular physiological systems. more...

Aedes aegypti circadian expression profiling

(Submitter supplied) Background. Aedes aegypti is arguably the most studied of all mosquito species in the laboratory and is the primary vector of both Dengue and Yellow Fever flaviviruses in the field. A large number of transcriptional studies have been made in the species and these usually report transcript quantities observed at a certain age or stage of development. However, circadian oscillation is an important characteristic of gene expression in many animals and plants, modulating both their physiology and behavior. more...
