H2A.Z marks the 5' end of genes

(Submitter supplied) In S. cerevisiae, histone variant H2A.Z is deposited in euchromatin at the flanks of silent heterochromatin to prevent its ectopic spread. The degree to which H2A.Z is found and functions elsewhere is unknown. Here we show that H2A.Z nucleosomes are found at promoter regions of nearly all genes in euchromatin. yeast_nucleosome_positioning_microarray 10+

(Submitter supplied) The sequence from S. cerevisiae chromosome III was fragmented into 50-mers overlapping every 20 base pairs. Potentially cross-hybridizing probes were filtered by BLASTing these sequences against the entire genome and eliminating sequences from chromosome III that included 5 or more contiguous probes with perfect BLAST matches, leaving 30 contigs covering 278,960 base pairs.
