Exposure of Campylobacter jejuni to acid stress enhances its pathogenesis and cross-protects the bacterium against other stresses

(Submitter supplied) Campylobacter jejuni is the prevalent cause of bacterial gastroenteritis in human worldwide. The ability to survive stomach acidity is a fundamental requirement for C. jejuni to colonize the host and cause disease. However, the mechanism of C. jejuni acid survival is still unknown. Herein, we demonstrated that C. jejuni is able to survive acidic conditions at pH 4 up to 8 min without a drop in viability. more...

Stintzi Lab Campylobacter jejuni 1.9k array, version 4.0

(Submitter supplied) Campy version 4.0; spotted PCR products. Protocol: A set of 3,308 oligonucleotides were designed with Primer 3 (code available at http://www.genomewi.mit.edu/genome_software/other/primer3.htm) to amplify, via PCR, an internal fragment from each of the 1,654 predicted open reading frames (ORFs) identified in the annotated genomic sequence of C. jejuni NCTC 11168. Genomic DNA (20 ng) was used as a template in the first round of PCR amplifications with standard methods in a 96-well plate format. more...
