Gene Array Analysis of Methylthioadenosine Supplementation in Dextran Sulfate Sodium Induced Colitis

(Submitter supplied) Study hypothesized that oral supplementation of methylthioadenosine (MTA) would reduce the inflammatory response in mice exposed to an agent that induces colitis (DSS) and that this reduction in inflammatory response would lead to reduced clinical disease burden.

Expression data from murine colon tissue after exposure to 4% DSS for 6 days DSS followed by 4 days of water or 1% L-arginine

(Submitter supplied) L-Arginine (L-Arg) is the substrate for both inducible nitric oxide synthase and arginase, which are upregulated in human IBD and in mouse colitis models. We have found that L-Arg supplementation enhances wound restitution in vitro, and improves the clinical parameters of weight loss, survival, and colon weight/length, in dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) induced murine colitis. Our aim was to further identify the potential mechanisms underlying the clinical benefit of L-Arg supplementation.

DSS-induced colitis model response to L-arginine supplementation

Analysis of colon from dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-treated C57BL/6 males following L-arginine supplementation. L-Arg supplementation improves clinical parameters of DSS-induced colitis. Results provide insight into molecular mechanisms underlying the clinical benefit of L-Arg supplementation.

Colonic gene expression data of acute and chronic dextran sodium sulphate (DSS) colitis mice

(Submitter supplied) The lack of suitable animal models reflecting chronically relapsing inflammation and tissue remodeling have hindered fibrosis research in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). This study investigated changes in connective tissue in a chronic murine model using different cycles of dextran sodium sulphate (DSS) to mimic the relapsing nature of the disease. We used whole gene expression arrays to study differences in colonic gene expression levels between acute and more chronic DSS colitis,
