Transcriptome Analysis of the Lates calcarifer Immune Response Towards Cryptocaryon irritans Infection

(Submitter supplied) Cryptocaryon irritans is the causative agent of white spot disease that infects virtually all marine teleost including Lates calcarifer. We undertook to gain an informative snapshot of the host’s transcriptomic response during the course of infection. Liver and spleen cDNA libraries-based L. calcarifer cDNA microarray were used as a tool to oversee the infection response. Parasites infection was carried out on juvenile fish for four days, and total RNA was extracted from the daily harvested infected liver. more...

Comparative Transcriptome Analysis Reveals immunoregulation mechanism of lncRNA-mRNA in Large Yellow Croaker (Larimichthys crocea) in Response to Cryptocaryon irritans Infection

(Submitter supplied) Cryptocaryonosis caused by Cryptocaryon irritans is one of the major diseases of large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea), which lead to massive economic losses annually. The pathogenesis for cryptocaryonosis has been researched by a series of transcriptome studies under different infection conditions. However, little is known about the roles of tissue-specifically expressed genes during the infection of C. more...

Microarray analysis of pig innate immune responses after experimental infection with Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae

(Submitter supplied) To study hepatic gene expression differences, liver samples from infected pigs (n = 10) were compared with liver samples from the non-infected control group (n = 5). Ten microarrays were performed, such that 5 randomly selected cDNA samples from the infected group were labeled with Oyster 550 (Genisphere Inc., Hatfield, PA, USA) and compared directly to 5 control animals labeled with Oyster 650 (Genisphere) analysing a pair of samples (one from an infected animal and one from a randomly chosen non-infected animal) on each microarray slide. more...

Transcriptomic profiling of the livers of blue catfish (Ictalurus furcatus) after infection with Edwardsiella ictaluri

(Submitter supplied) We have utilized a high-density oligonucleotide microarray for catfish in order to study the transcriptomic responses of blue catfish following infection with E. ictaluri and to identify and develop important immune-related markers for future characterization and genetic mapping. Microarray analysis of the transcriptome profile of the blue catfish liver following infection with the Gram negative bacterium led to the identification of 103 differentially expressed transcripts. more...

Global assessment of the acute phase response in channel catfish after infection with a Gram negative bacterium

(Submitter supplied) The acute phase response (APR) is a set of metabolic and physiological reactions occurring in the host in response to tissue infection or injury and is a crucial component of the larger innate immune response. The APR is best characterized by dramatic changes in the concentration of a group of plasma proteins known as acute phase proteins (APP) which are synthesized in the liver and which function in a wide range of immunity-related activities. more...

Deep sequencing of the innate immune transcriptomic response of zebrafish embryos to Salmonella infection

(Submitter supplied) Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. typhimurium) bacteria cause an inflammatory and lethal infection in zebrafish embryos. To characterize the embryonic innate host response at the transcriptome level, we have extended and validated previous microarray data by Illumina next-generation sequencing analysis. Comparison of tag-based sequencing (DGE or Tag-Seq) with full transcript sequencing (RNA-Seq) showed a strong correlation of sequence read counts per transcript and an overlap of 241 transcripts differentially expressed in response to infection. more...

Transcriptional analysis of common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) immune response against Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV-3).

(Submitter supplied) Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV-3), also known as koi herpesvirus (KHV), is the aetiological agent of an emerging and lethal disease in common and koi carp. In this work we studied the immune response of two genetically different lines of common carp (Polish K and Polish R3) infected with CyHV-3 by immersion. The two carp lines presented a 20% difference in survival rate and, furthermore, significant difference in virus loads measured at day 3 post infection (p.i.). more...
