Expression data from bovine ovarian theca cells in primary culture

(Submitter supplied) Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP) are firmly implicated as intra-ovarian regulators of follicle development and steroidogenesis. We carried out a microarray analysis to examine global changes in gene expression in bovine theca cells in response to treatment with BMP6 alone and in combination with LH. There was a major effect of BMP6 treatment on the gene expression profile with a much weaker effect of LH. more...

Suppression of insulin like3 receptor reveals the role of β-catenin and Notch signaling in gubernaculum development

(Submitter supplied) During male development, the testes move from a high intraabdominal position and descend into the scrotum. The gubernaculum, an inguinoscrotal ligament connecting the testis to the lower abdomen, is believed to play a critical role in this process. The first stage of testicular descent is controlled by INSL3, insulin like3 hormone, produced in testicular Leydig cells. Deletion of Insl3 or its receptor, Rxfp2, in mice causes cryptorchidism. more...

Gene Profiling Male Fetal Rat Gubernaculum After Insulin-like 3 (Insl3) Exposure

(Submitter supplied) Insl3 is a testis-derived hormone that induces growth and differentiation of the fetal gubernaculum. The goal of this study was to identify genes showing altered expression in fetal gubernaculum following Insl3 exposure.

CRISPR/Cas9-mediated activation of NR5A1 steers female human embryonic stem cell-derived bipotential gonadal-like cells towards a steroidogenic cell fate.

(Submitter supplied) The nuclear receptor subfamily 5 group A member 1 (NR5A1), encoding steroidogenic factor 1 (SF-1), has been identified as a critical factor in gonadal development in animal studies. A previous study of ours suggested that upregulation of NR5A1 during early gonadal differentiation in male (46,XY) human pluripotent stem cells steers the cells into a more mature gonadal cell type. However, the detailed role of NR5A1 in female gonadal differentiation has yet to be determined. more...
