Gene expression profile of the developing endosperm in durum wheat provides insight into starch biosynthesis

(Submitter supplied) Durum wheat (Triticum turgidum subsp. durum) is widely grown for pasta production, and more recently, is gaining additional interest due to its resilience to warm, dry climates and its use as an experimental model for wheat research. To enable further research into endosperm development and storage reserve synthesis, we generated a high-quality transcriptomics dataset from developing endosperms of durum variety Kronos, to complement the extensive mutant resources available for this variety. more...

Multi-omics analysis of small RNA, transcriptome and degradome in T. turgidum – regulatory networks of grain development and abiotic stress response

(Submitter supplied) Crop reproduction is highly sensitive to water-deficit and heat stress. The molecular networks of stress adaptation and grain development in tetraploid wheat (T. turgidum durum) are not well understood. Small RNAs (sRNAs) are important epigenetic regulators connecting the transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulatory networks. This study presents the first multi-omics analysis of the sRNAome, transcriptome and degradome in T. more...

Grain RNAseq of two hard red winter wheat cultivars with contrasting grain protein contents

(Submitter supplied) TAM 111 and TAM 112 are two popular cultivars grown in the Southern US Great Plains with significantly different protein content. Thus, to investigate likely regulatory differences, transcriptome data were analyzed from developing grains at early- and mid-filling stages.

Transcriptomic and physiological response of durum wheat grain to short period of heat stress at the early grain-filling stage

(Submitter supplied) Wheat is one of the most significant crops in terms of human consumption in the world. In a climate change scenario, extreme weather event such as heatwaves will be more frequent especially during the grain-filling (GF) stage and could affect grain weight and quality of crops. Molecular mechanisms underlying the response to short heat stress (HS) have been widely reported for the hexaploid wheat (Triticum aestivum) but the regulatory heat stress mechanisms in tetraploid durum wheat (Triticum turgidum ssp. more...

Insights into transcriptional characteristics and homoeolog expression bias of embryo and endosperm in developing grain through mRNA-Seq and Iso-Seq

(Submitter supplied) To analyse the regulation of transcripts in grain embryo and endosperm during development, we performed RNA-Seq for wheat from 14 and 25 day post anthesis (DPA). And long-read sequencing for mixed whole grains from 14 and 25 DPA was employed to obtain full-length transcripts. A series of differentially expressed genes and tissues-specific genes of embryo and endosperm were identified. Moreover, 4351, 4641, 4516 and 4453 genes with A, B and D homoeoloci were detected in the four tissues. more...
