Anesthesia and fear conditioning effect on amygdala

Analysis of basolateral amygdalae from animals following isoflurane treatment, pain treatment, or fear conditioning alone or in combination with isoflurane treatment. Fear conditioning leads to long-term memory formation. Isoflurane is a general anesthetic and amnestic agent.

Effect of Isoflurane and LTM on basolateral amygdala

(Submitter supplied) Fear conditioning in rats leads to long term memory (LTM) formation. A central neural substrate for LTM is the basolateral amygdala. We sought the expression changes specific to LTM at 6h following anesthesia with isoflurane (a general anesthetic and an effective amnestic agent), following pain (a component of conditioning), and following conditioning in presence and absence of isoflurane. Keywords = anesthesia, amygdala, LTM, Rampil, Isoflurane, fear, memory Keywords: other

Expression data from brain tissue of Rattus norvegicus treated with D-Serine

(Submitter supplied) d-serine is naturally present throughout the human body. It is also used as add-on therapy for treatment-refractory schizophrenia. d-Serine interacts with the strychnine-insensitive glycine binding site of NMDA receptor, and this interaction could lead to potentially toxic activity (i.e., excitotoxicity) in brain tissue. The transcriptomic changes that occur in the brain after d-serine exposure have not been fully explored. more...

D-serine effect on the brain: dose response

Analysis of forebrains of animals treated with up to 500 mg/kg D-serine for 96 hours. D-serine is involved in many physiological processes through its interaction with the glycine binding site of the NMDA receptor. Results provide insight into the impact of D-serine exposure on neuronal functions.

Epileptogenesis alters gene expression pattern in rats subjected to amygdala-dependent emotional learning

(Submitter supplied) Here we tested a hypothesis that epileptogenesis influences expression pattern of genes in the basolateral amygdala that are critical for fear conditioning. Whole genome molecular profiling of basolateral rat amygdala was performed to compare the transcriptome changes underlying fear learning in epileptogenic and control animals. Our analysis revealed that after acquisition of fear conditioning 26 genes were regulated differently in the basolateral amygdala of both groups. more...

Rat exposure to RDX (3mg/kg or 18mg/kg; 0, 4, 24, 48 hr)

(Submitter supplied) RDX (Hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine) is a synthetic, high-impact, relatively stable explosive that has been in use since WWII. Exposure to RDX can occur either occupationally or through ordnance that lays unexploded on training ranges. The toxicology of RDX is dominated by acute tonic-clonic seizures at high doses, which remit when exposure is removed and internal RDX levels decrease. Sub-chronic studies have revealed few other toxic effects. more...

Hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine effect on the liver: dose response and time course

Analysis of livers of males for up to 48 hours after treatment with a single, oral, nonseizure-inducing dose of 3 or 18 mg/kg hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX). RDX is a synthetic, high-impact, stable explosive. Results provide insight into the acute effects of RDX on the liver.

Early responsive genes in human amnion epithelial FL cells induced by N-methyl-N’-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine

(Submitter supplied) The alkylating agent N-methyl-N’-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) induces cellular DNA damages and other comprehensive alterations that lead to chromosomal aberrations, mutations, tumor initiations, and cell death. However, the molecular mechanism of MNNG-induced cellular stress remains unclear. We have genome-wide analyzed early transcriptional responses of human FL amnion epithelial cells after exposure to three relatively low doses of MNNG (0.2, 1.0, and 10.0µM),and differential gene expression profiles were obtained 4 h after exposure using oligonucleotide microarrays followed by validation with quantitative real-time RT-PCR. more...
