Neisseria meningitidis non-adherent mutant infected umbilical vein endothelial cells: time course

Analysis of umbilical vein endothelial cells 1 and 6 hours following infection with adherent wild type or the non-adherent (delta pilD) mutant form of Neisseria meningitidis. Results provide insight into the role of adherence-mediated signaling in N. meningitidis infections.

Signaling of Neisseria meningitidis MC58 mutants to primary human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC)

(Submitter supplied) We examined the adherence-mediated signaling of meningococci to human cells by comparing gene expression profiles of primary human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) infected by piliated and adherent wild-type (WT), frpC/frpA-deficient mutant, or the non-adherent (ΔpilD) N. meningitidis MC58 bacteria defective in production of the type IV pilus, respectively. Surprisingly, no significant difference was found between the transcriptomes of HUVECs infected by bacteria producing, or not the RTX FrpC and FrpA proteins, thus failing to provide any hints on their biological activity. more...

Gene expression changes associated with the anti-angiogenic effect of KLK3 (PSA) on HUVECs

(Submitter supplied) Kallikrein-related peptidase 3 (KLK3, also known as prostate-specific antigen, PSA) is a chymotrypsin-like kallikrein that has been shown to have anti-angiogenic properties. KLK3 expression in prostate cancer is associated with low microvessel density. We have previously shown in a human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) model that the anti-angiogenic effect of KLK3 is related to its enzymatic activity. more...
