Transcriptome analysis of banana (Musa acuminata) in response to low-nitrogen stress

(Submitter supplied) Nitrogen (N) is an abundant and essential macronutrient for plants growth and development processes, especially for the huge banana trees with high biomass. In this paper, we studied the response of banana resists to low N stress ueing Illumina RNA-Seq technology, and analyzed the DEGs associated with the absorption, transport, and ulitilize of nitrogen.

Small RNAs in monocots

(Submitter supplied) In monocots other than the cereals maize and rice, the repertoire and diversity of microRNAs (miRNAs) and the populations of phased, secondary, small interfering RNAs (phasiRNAs) are poorly characterized. To remedy this, we sequenced small RNAs (sRNAs) from vegetative and dissected inflorescence tissue in 28 phylogenetically diverse monocots and from several early-diverging angiosperm lineages, as well as publicly available data from 10 additional monocot species. more...

Dataset of banana transcriptome in response to endophyte bacteria inoculation prior to Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense tropical race 4 (Foc TR4) infection

(Submitter supplied) We report the first data of RNA sequencing of banana Musa acuminata cv. Pisang ambon kuning (AAA group) inoculated by two different endophyte bacteria named Stenothropomonas nitritireducens (BR-49) and Kocuria rhizophila (SL-08), respectively, prior to Fusarium oxysprorum f.sp. cubense tropical race 4 (Foc TR4).

Comparative transcriptome analysis of banana (Musa acuminata L. AAA group, cv. Cavendish) leaves and roots in response to low-potassium stress

(Submitter supplied) Potassium (K+) is a crucial macronutrient in high biomass plants, especially in banana.we comparatively studyed the phenotypic traits and transcriptomic profiles of banana leaves and roots between low potassium group (LK) and normal-potassium group (NK). In our study, the K+ content and biomass index of banana seedling were all significantly decreased under the stress of low potassium group. Moreover, thirty differentially expressed genes (DEGs) related to potassium transport and uptake and transcription factors were analyzed deeply. more...

Banana sRNAome and degradome identify microRNAs functioning in differential responses to temperature stress

(Submitter supplied) We report the high-throughput profiling of miRNAs in banana. By deep sequencing and computational and molecular analyses, we identify 113 known and 26 banana-specific miRNAs and we characterize their expression pattern under cold and heat stress. We find that 42 banana miRNAs are temperature-responsive. By degradome sequencing, we identify 60 targets for known miRNAs and half of these targets are regulated by 15 temperature-responsive miRNAs. more...

fruitENCODE: An encyclopedia of DNA elements for fruit ripening

(Submitter supplied) Fleshy fruits evolved independently multiple times during angiosperm history, including the use of ethylene for the initiation and maintenance of ripening. ENCODE data of 355 transcriptome, 66 accessible chromatin, 160 histone and 45 DNA methylation profiles from eleven fleshy fruit species revealed three types of transcriptional feedback loops controlling ripening. Eudicots peach, papaya and melon evolved their circuits using carpel senescence NAC genes, whereas tomato, apple and pear utilized floral identity MADS genes derived from recent whole-genome-duplications. more...

Discovery and Differential Expression of miRNAs in Fusarium Wilt Resistant and Susceptible Banana Varieties

(Submitter supplied) MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of endogenous non-coding small RNAs that regulate targeted mRNAs by degrading or repressing translation, considered as post-transcrption regulators. So far, a large number of miRNAs have been discovered in model plants, but little information is available on miRNAs in banana. In this study, by sequencing the small RNA (sRNA) transcriptomes of Fusarium wilt resistant and susceptible banana varieties, 139 members in 38 miRNA families were discovered, and six out of eight new miRNAs were confirmed by RT-PCR. more...

High throughput sequencing of the small RNAs from banana cv. Grand Naine (AAA group)

(Submitter supplied) Small RNAs especially small inhibiting RNAs (siRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) play essential role in the regulation of gene expression in plants. These non coding RNAs are processed by the DICER like proteins into 21-24 nucleotides single stranded molecules that guide the activity of RNA induced silencing complex. This complex along with the processed small RNA identifies the cognate mRNA and brings about sequence specific mRNA degradation thereby silencing the gene expression. more...
