(Submitter supplied) Dendritic cells (DC) serve a key function in host defense, linking innate detection of microbes to the activation of pathogen-specific adaptive immune responses. Whether there is cell-intrinsic recognition of HIV-1 by host innate pattern-recognition receptors and subsequent coupling to antiviral T cell responses is not yet known. Analysis of MDDCs exposed to GFP-encoding HIV-1 pseudotyped with vesicular stomatitis virus protein G (VSV-G) [HIV-GFP(G)], VSV-G-pseudotyped SIVmac239 virus-like particles [SIV-VLP(G)], or both. Results provide insight into molecular mechanisms udnerlying DC activation after HIV-1 infection.
