Malaria Host Pathogen Center Experiment 07A and 07B - Macaca fascicularis infected with Plasmodium knowlesi to produce and integrate clinical, hematological, parasitological, omics, telemetric and histopathological measures of acute primary infection.

(Submitter supplied) This project is part of the Malaria Host-Pathogen Interaction Center (MaHPIC) - a transdisciplinary malaria systems biology research program initially supported by an NIH/NIAID contract (# HHSN272201200031C, 2012-2017; see http://www.systemsbiology.emory.edu). The MaHPIC has continued with support from the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) and others. The MaHPIC generates many data types (e.g., clinical, hematological, parasitological, metabolomics, functional genomics, lipidomics, proteomics, immune response, telemetry) and mathematical models, to iteratively test and develop hypotheses related to the complex host-parasite dynamics in the course of malaria in non-human primates (NHPs), and metabolomics data via collaborations with investigators conducting clinical studies in malaria endemic countries, with the overarching goal of better understanding human disease, pathogenesis, and immunity. more...

Comparative profiling of the heterochromatin landscape in different life cycle stages, strains and species of malaria parasites

(Submitter supplied) Heterochromatin is a tightly packaged form of DNA that leads to permanent or temporal gene silencing. In P. falciparum heterochromatin is formed after trimethylation of lysine 9 on histone H3 and consequent binding of heterochromatin protein 1 (HP1). Genome-wide profiling studies established that in P. falciparum blood stage schizonts heterochromatin is formed at subtelomeres and some intra-chromosomal islands. more...

ZB/SBS-NTU Plasmodium knowlesi 11.6K v1

(Submitter supplied) Long oligonucleotides were selected using the program OligoRankPick, described in Guangan Hu, Manuel Llinás, Jingguang Li, Peter Rainer Preiser & Zbynek Bozdech: Selection of long oligonucleotides for gene expression microarrays using weighted rank-sum strategy. BMC Bioinformatics 2007, 8:350. The 60-bp oligonucleotides were spotted onto poly-L-lysine-coated microscopic slides as described in Zbynek Bozdech, Jingchun Zhu, Marcin P Joachimiak, Fred E Cohen, Brian Pulliam & Joseph L DeRisi: Expression profiling of the schizont and trophozoite stages of Plasmodium falciparum with a long-oligonucleotide microarray. more...
