Prediction of response and survival following chemotherapy in patients with advanced bladder cancer

(Submitter supplied) BACKGROUND Cisplatin-containing chemotherapy is the standard of care for patients with locally advanced and metastatic transitional cell carcinoma of the urothelium. The response rate is around 50% and tumor derived molecular prognostic markers are needed for estimation of response and survival. METHODS Affymetrix GeneChip expression profiling was carried out using tumor material from 30 patients. more...

GEP associated with drug resistance in adult AML

(Submitter supplied) Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients are primarily resistant to induction chemotherapy in 20-50%. Previously it has been shown that resistance to the first cycle of induction chemotherapy is an independent prognostic factor. We investigated whether resistance to chemotherapy can be represented by gene-expression profiling, and which genes are associated with resistance. cDNA microarrays containing ~41.000 features were used to compare the gene-expression profile of AML blasts between 33 patients with good or poor response to induction chemotherapy. more...

A predictive and prognostic 38-gene expression signature for metastatic relapse in breast cancer

(Submitter supplied) Background Currently, no gene-expression signature (GES) established from node-positive cohorts, able to predict breast cancer evolution after systemic adjuvant chemotherapy, exists. Methods Gene-expression profiles of 252 node-positive patients (median follow-up: 7.7 years), mostly included in a randomized clinical trial (PACS01), receiving systemic adjuvant regimen, were determined by means of cDNA custom array representing 5,776 distinct genes. more...

Gene expression signatures predict outcome in non-muscle invasive bladder carcinoma - a multi-center validation study

(Submitter supplied) Background Clinically useful molecular markers predicting the clinical course of patients diagnosed with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer are needed to improve treatment outcome. Methods We used custom designed oligonucleotide microarrays to validate four previously reported gene expression signatures for molecular diagnosis of disease stage and carcinoma in situ, and for predicting disease recurrence and progression. more...
