Two distinct gene signatures identify malignant Neuroblast and Schwannian stromal cells of Neuroblastic Tumors

(Submitter supplied) Tumor tissue heterogeneity is a well known feature of several solid tumors. Neuroblastic Tumors (NTs) is a group of paediatric cancers with a great tissue heterogeneity. Most of NTs are composed of undifferentiated, poorly differentiated or differentiating neuroblastic (Nb) cells with very few or absent Schwannian stromal (SS) cells: these tumors are grouped as Neuroblastoma (Schwannian stroma-poor). more...

Classification of neuroblastoma by integrating gene expression pattern with regional alterations in DNA copy number

(Submitter supplied) The specific genes that influence neuroblastoma biology and are targeted by genomic alterations remain largely unknown. We quantified mRNA expression in a highly annotated series of 101 prospectively collected diagnostic neuroblastoma primary tumors and the expression profiles were determined using Affymetrix U95Av2 arrays. Comparisons between the sample groups allow the identification of genes with localized expression patterns. more...

Characterization of B- and T-lineage ALL by Integrated Analysis of microRNA and mRNA Expression Profiles

(Submitter supplied) Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is an heterogeneous disease comprising several subentities that differ for both immunophenotypic and molecular characteristics. Over the years, the biologic understanding of this neoplasm has largely increased. Gene expression profiling has recently allowed to identify specific signatures for the different ALL subsets and permitted identification of pathways deregulated by a given lesion. more...

Molecular portrait of cisplatin induced response in human testis cancer cell lines based on gene expression profiles

(Submitter supplied) Testicular germ cell tumors (TGCTs) are the most common tumors in young men. Fortunately, TGCTs respond very well to cisplatin -based chemotherapy and show a low incidence of acquired resistance compared to most somatic tumors. This high sensitivity also applies to more than 80% of all TGCTs with metastatic disease. The reasons for this particularly high sensitivity of male germ cell tumors to chemotherapy seem to be multifactorial. more...

House keeping gene analysis - carcinoids and normal mucosa

(Submitter supplied) Accurate and reproducible quantitation of target genes depends on correct normalization. Historically, genes with variable tissue transcription e.g. GAPDH, have been used as normalization factors which is problematic, particularly in clinical samples which often are derived from different tissue sources. Using a large-scale gene database (GeneChip (Affymetrix U133A) dataset of 36 gastrointestinal tumors and normal tissues), we identified 8 candidate reference genes that were highly expressed with low variability and established expression levels by real-time RT-PCR in an independent set of GI tissue samples (n=42). more...

Molecular targets of doxazosin in human prostatic stromal cells

(Submitter supplied) BACKGROUND: We used cDNA microarray analysis to obtain insights into the mechanisms of action of doxazosin, an alpha(1)-adrenergic receptor antagonist used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). METHODS: Hierarchical clustering analysis and significance analysis of microarray (SAM) were performed to identify genes differentially expressed between untreated stromal cells cultured from normal tissue and BPH, and changes in gene expression induced by doxazosin. more...

Expression data from brain tissue of Rattus norvegicus treated with D-Serine

(Submitter supplied) d-serine is naturally present throughout the human body. It is also used as add-on therapy for treatment-refractory schizophrenia. d-Serine interacts with the strychnine-insensitive glycine binding site of NMDA receptor, and this interaction could lead to potentially toxic activity (i.e., excitotoxicity) in brain tissue. The transcriptomic changes that occur in the brain after d-serine exposure have not been fully explored. more...
