Growth factor influence on the gene expression profile of human meibomian gland epithelial cells

(Submitter supplied) Analysis of growth factor influence on immortalized human meibomian gland epithelial cells at gene expression level. Growth factors play a critical role in the proliferation and differentiation of sebaceous gland epithelial cells. Given that the meibomian gland is a large sebaceous gland, we hypothesize that growth factors exert analogous effects on human meibomian gland epithelial cells. Results provide important information of the response of human meibomian gland epithelial cells to epidermal growth factor (EGF), bovine pituitary extract (BPE), and both, such as up- or down- regulated genes involved in lipid metabolic process and cell cycle.

Dihydrotestosterone induced changes in gene expression in immortalized human conjunctival epithelial cells

(Submitter supplied) Genome-wide analysis of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) induced changes in gene expression in immortalized human conjunctival epithelial cells. Analysis of regulation of immortalized human conjunctival epithelial cells by dihydrotestosterone at gene expression level. The hypothesis tested in the present study was that the androgen-eye interaction in ocular surface epithelial cells like conjunctival cells is influenced by androgens through regulation of the expression of multiple genes. more...

The effects of testosterone and lipopolysaccharide on gene expression in immortalized ocular surface and adnexal cells

(Submitter supplied) Immortalized human corneal, conjunctival, and meibomian gland epithelial cells were pre-treated with dihydrotesteosterone (DHT) or vehicle, then exposed to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and ligand binding protein (LBP) or vehicle, lysed, and subjected to microarray analysis of RNA expression.

Testosterone effect on meibomian gland

Analysis of meibomian glands from orchiectomized BALB/c adults treated with testosterone for 14 days. Androgen deficiency associated with glandular dysfunction and evaporative dry eye. Lacrimal and submandibular glands included. Results suggest pathways regulated by androgens in meibomian glands.
