A prophage encoded actin-like protein mediates viral DNA segregation/replication in bacteria [Set1]

(Submitter supplied) Active segregation of DNA in bacteria is catalyzed by cytomotive structures. Mediators of subcellular plasmid positioning are Walker-type ATPases (ParA), actin-like proteins, or tubulin homologs. These motor proteins are coupled to the DNA via adaptor proteins that recognize specific DNA motifs. Here, we describe that a temperate phage, CGP3, integrated into the genome of Corynebacterium glutamicum ATCC 13032 encodes an actin-like protein, AlpC. more...

Silencing of cryptic prophages in Corynebacterium glutamicum

(Submitter supplied) DNA microarrays were applied to investigate the transcriptome of C. glutamicum cells and to identify potential target genes under CgpS countersilencing conditions. The silencing activity of CgpS was reduced by overexpression of the N-terminal part, which was placed under the control of the inducible tac promoter in the pAN6 plasmid. The expression of the N terminal part was induced with 100 µM IPTG.
