Characterization of a key region involved in the NO stress response of Bacillus cereus

(Submitter supplied) Bacterial response to nitric oxide (NO) is of major importance for bacterial survival, as NO stress is a main actor of the eukaryote immune response. Several pathogenic bacteria have developed gene regulation systems involved in detoxification and in repairing the damages caused by NO. However, bacterial mechanisms of NO resistance are poorly described for Gram positive bacteria and especially Bacillus cereus. more...

The sigmaB regulon of B. cereus ATCC14579

(Submitter supplied) The alternative sigma factor sigmaB has an important role in the acquisition of stress-resistance in many gram-positive bacteria. In the foodborne pathogen Bacillus cereus sigmaB is activated strongly upon a heat shock and other stress conditions. Here we describe the identification of the set of sigmaB-regulated genes in B. cereus by DNA microarray analysis of the transcriptome upon a mild heat shock. more...

Transcriptome analysis of Bacillus cereus strain F837/76 in response to porcine gastric mucin, accomplished by RNA sequencing

(Submitter supplied) In the intestine, B. cereus comes in contact with the epithelial mucus layer. To investigate the overall response to that contact, total transcriptome analyses were performed using porcine gastric mucin (PGM), which is a commonly applied model for mucus interactions. Differential regulation of genes encoding enterotoxins and further virulence factors was of special interest.

Insight into the response of Bacillus cereus towards the polysaccharide chitosan

(Submitter supplied) Comparison of chitosan-treated B. cereus ATCC 14579 cells with non-treated B. cereus ATCC 14579 cells. 2 chitosans with similar molecular weight (Mw) but different degrees of acetylation (Fa) were used: chitosan B (Mw: 28.4 kDa, Fa: 0.16) (samples 1-3) and chitosan A (Mw: 36.0 kDa, Fa: 0.01) (samples 4-6).

Transcriptome analyses of 2.5% and 5% NaCl-stressed B. cereus ATCC 14579

(Submitter supplied) Bacteria are able to cope with the challenges of sudden increase of salinity by activating adaptation mechanisms. In this study, exponentially growing cells of the food-borne pathogen Bacillus cereus ATCC 14579 were exposed to both mild (2.5% NaCl w/v) and severe (5% NaCl w/v) salt stress conditions. B. cereus continued growth at a reduced rate when shifted to mild salt stress. Exposure to severe salt stress resulted in a lag period, and after 60 min cellular growth was resumed filamentously. more...

Transcriptome analysis of Bacillus cereus B3711 during silver ion stress condition

(Submitter supplied) We have employed a whole genome microarray for gene expression profilling to understand the global view of the cellular mechanism and metabolic response of B. cereus B3711 exposed to 1 mM silver nitrate. RNA was extracted from B. cereus grown under silver treated and untreated set of conditions in duplicates at two different time points (30 & 60 min). Comparing the transcript profile of the control and treated cells, several differentially expressed genes were identified. more...
