Gene expression profiling of hypertensive and hypotensive mice

(Submitter supplied) Hypertension is a condition with major cardiovascular and renal complications, affecting nearly a billion patients worldwide. Few validated gene targets are available for pharmacological intervention, so there is a need to identify new biological pathways regulating blood pressure and containing novel targets for treatment. The genetically hypertensive “blood pressure high” (BPH), normotensive “blood pressure normal” (BPN), and hypotensive "blood pressure low" (BPL) inbred mouse strains are an ideal system to study differences in gene expression patterns that may represent such biological pathways. more...

Environmental pollution assessment using Mus spretus

(Submitter supplied) We evaluated the suitability of high-throughput transcriptomics approach to monitor terrestrial ecosystems. Free-living Mus spretus from several polluted sites of Huelva (Andalusia, SW Spain) were compared with mice from Doñana Biological Reserve (“Santa Olalla” lagoon (SOL) used as negative control). As most popular bioindicators, M. spretus is poorly represented in gene databases, therefore limiting the use of genomics in ecotoxicological studies. more...

Expression data from male and female Schlager hypertensive (BPH/2J) and normotensive (BPN/3J) kidneys

(Submitter supplied) Analysis of kidneys from 12 week BPH/2J hypertensive and age matched normotensive BPN/3J controls - males and females. The results provide insights into the genes that are involved in hypertension in both males and females, as well as highlight mechanisms that underlye sex differences in hypertension. We show that female data can be used to refine candidate genes and pathways, as well as highlight potential mechanisms to explain the differences in prevalence and severity of disease between the sexes.

Comparative analysis of gene expression in A/J CB versus DBA/2J

(Submitter supplied) We hypothesize that gene expression in the CBs of these two strains of mice are divergent thus contributing to the disparity in the phenotypes. More specifically, (1) genes related to CB function are expressed less in the A/J mice compared to DBA/2J mice; (2) gene expression levels of morphogenic and trophic factors of the CB maybe significantly lower in the A/J mice than the DBA/2J mice. In order to test these hypotheses, we utilized microarray analysis to examine transcriptional differences between CBs of both strains of mice. more...
