Expression data for stress treatment in rice seedlings

(Submitter supplied) Drought, salinity and sub-optimal temperatures are stresses that cause adverse effects on the growth of plants and the productivity of crops. In this study, we have analyzed the expression profiles of rice genes under control and abiotic stress conditions using microarray technology to identify the genes differentially expressed during various abiotic stresses. Expression data for reproductive development in rice

(Submitter supplied) Plants initially undergo a period of vegetative development, in which it produces leaves from shoot apical meristem (SAM) and roots from the root apical meristem. Later in development, the SAM undergoes a change in fate and enters reproductive development called as floral transition, producing flowers and seeds. Our understanding of the molecular and genetic mechanisms that underlie reproductive development in plants has increased tremendously in the past decade, essentially through the work on Arabidopsis. more...

Rice seedling hormone treatment

(Submitter supplied) Indica rice seedlings of IR64 variety were grown hydroponically for 7-days in a culture room with a daily photoperiodic cycle of 14h light and 10h dark. Seedlings were incubated in 0.1% dimethyl sulfoxide (control) or 50 micromolar solutions of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA treatment) and benzyl aminopurine (BAP treatment) for 1h and 3h. Equal amounts of 1h and 3h samoles were pooled for each treatment before RNA isolation. more...

Transcriptomes of developing rice ovules

(Submitter supplied) We aimed to reveal transitions of gene expression profile in developing female gametophytes of rice in this study. The developmental process of rice female gametophyte, from megaspore mother cell at pre-meiotic stage to mature embryo sac, was separated into six stages. Developing ovules at each stage were separated from surrounding sporophyte tissues and collected using LMD. RNA samples extracted from them were subjected to microarray analysis. more...

Dissecting the developmental transcriptomes of rice

(Submitter supplied) Transcriptional programs are important for the development of complex eukaryotic organisms. Suites of genes expressed with temporal and spatial controls by regulatory networks in response to environmental cues are the cornerstone for achieving the specification of morphology and physiology of the tissue or organ systems. Thus, an important issue of developmental biology is to define the subsets of expressed genes and their expression patterns that are related to the organ or tissue system. more...

Comprehensive gene expression profiling of the rice root system based on developmental stages and tissue types

(Submitter supplied) The root system is a crucial determinant of plant growth potential because of its important functions, e.g., acquisition of water and nutrients, structural support, and interaction with symbiotic organisms. Elucidating the molecular mechanisms of root development and functions is therefore necessary for improving plant productivity, particularly for crop plants including rice. As an initial step towards developing a comprehensive understanding of the root system, we performed a large-scale transcriptome analysis of the rice root via a combined laser microdissection and microarray analysis approach.

Developmental transcriptional profiling of Triticeae reproductive development

(Submitter supplied) Despite their importance, there remains a paucity of large scale expression-based studies of reproductive development in the species belonging to the Triticeae. As a first step to address this deficiency, a gene expression atlas of triticale reproductive development was generated using the 55K Affymetrix GeneChip® Wheat Genome Array. The global transcriptional profiles of the anther/pollen, ovary and stigma were analyzed at concurrent developmental stages and co-regulated as well as preferentially expressed genes were identified. more...

Analysis of anther transcriptomes to identify genes contributing to meiosis and male gametophyte development in rice

(Submitter supplied) Background – In flowering plants, the anther is the site of male gametophyte development. Two major events in the development of the male germline are meiosis and the asymmetric division in the male gametophyte that gives rise to the vegetative and generative cells, and the following mitotic division in the generative cell that produces two sperm cells. Anther transcriptomes have been analyzed at progressive stages of development by using microarray and sequence by synthesis technologies to identify genes that regulate anther development. more...

Transcriptomes of isolated rice gametes characterized by deep sequencing: Evidence for distinct sex-dependent chromatin and epigenetic states before fertilization

(Submitter supplied) The formation of a zygote by the fusion of egg and sperm involves the two gametic transcriptomes. In flowering plants, the embryo sac embedded within the ovule contains the egg cell, while the pollen grain contains two sperm cells inside a supporting vegetative cell. The difficulties of collecting isolated gametes and consequent low recovery of RNA have restricted in-depth analysis of gametic transcriptomes in flowering plants. more...

Genome-wide gene expression profiling of rice stigma

(Submitter supplied) In angiosperms, stigma provides initial nutrients and guidance cues for pollen grain germination and tube growth. However, little is known about genes that regulate these processes in rice. Here we generate rice stigma-specific gene expression profiles through comparing genome-wide expression patterns of hand dissected unpollinated stigma at anthesis with seven tissues including seedling shoot, seedling root, mature anther, ovary at anthesis, seeds of five days after pollination, 10-day-old embryo, 10-day-old endosperm as well as suspension cultured cells by using 57K Affymetrix rice whole genome array. more...

Whole genome analysis of pollen-pistil interactions in Arabidopsis thaliana: time course

(Submitter supplied) Plant reproduction depends on the concerted activation of many genes to assure the correct communication between pollen and pistil. Here we queried the whole transcriptome of Arabidopsis thaliana in order to identify genes with specific reproductive functions. We used the ATH1 whole genome array to profile wild-type unpollinated pistils and unfertilized ovules in comparison with the expression profile of pistils 0.5, 3.5 and 8.0 hours after pollination KEYWORDS: time course
