Expression profiling of Solanum chacoense in response to Colorado potato beetle herbivory

(Submitter supplied) We report the transcriptional response to Colorado potato beetle herbivory in leaves of the highly beetle resistant Solanum chacoense diploid line USDA8380-1 (80-) and a susceptible F2 individual (EE501F2_093) derived from a cross between 80-1 and a beetle susceptible line S. chacoense M6. Sampling tissue in a time course during adult Colorado potato beetle feeding provides novel insight to the transcriptomic defense response to this important pest.

Expression profiling of Solanum chacoense diploid potato lines to identify candidate Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) resistance genes

(Submitter supplied) Analysis of the mapped reads showed that 496 transcripts are differentially expressed between resistant and susceptible plants at 16-wks post-transplant. Of these, 188 transcripts are down-regulated in resistant plants, as well as significantly enriched on chromosome 2, while up-regulated genes are distributed across the genome. Previously uncharacterized uridine diphosphate-glycosyltransferases and ethylene response transcription factors within the QTL region identified by bulk-segregant analysis are candidate genes for further analysis.

(Submitter supplied) Sexual reproduction in flowering plants involves intimate interactions between the growing pollen tube and the female reproductive structure. These interactions start immediately after pollen landing on the stigma and continue during the pollen tube journey through the style and the ovary.
