Hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension in calf right ventricle

(Submitter supplied) Right ventricular (RV) failure is the major determinant of outcome in pulmonary hypertension (PH). Calves exposed to 2-wks environmental hypoxia develop severe PH and unlike rodents, chronic hypoxia-induced PH in this species can lead to right heart failure. We therefore sought to examine the molecular and structural changes in the RV in calves with hypoxia-induced PH, hypothesizing that we could identify mechanisms underlying compensated physiological function in the face of developing severe PH. more...

Expression data of sheep exposed to Mycobacterium avium subsp. Paratuberculosis

(Submitter supplied) In this study, consistent gene expression changes were analysed to identify gene-to-gene interaction and functional pathway relationships associated with the MAP exposure outcomes of either a paucibacillary or a multibacillary disease form or sheep resilient to disease. The results suggest that although groups of genes are differentially changed in the MAP exposed sheep regardless of clinical outcome, there are distinct variations in gene expression patterns between the paucibacillary and multibacillary forms of disease and of particular note was the finding that MAP exposed animals with evidence of recovery or resilience respond to MAP exposure with a pattern of gene and molecular pathway interactions distinct from those animals that progress to clinical paratuberculosis.

Expression data from bovine conceptus during peri-implantation period

(Submitter supplied) Conceptus implantation to the uterine endometrium is required for pregnancy establishment, during which non-invasive trophoblasts attach and adhere to the uterine endometrium or invasive trophoblasts invade into the uterine stroma, followed by placental formation in most mammalian species. During peri-implantation period, conceptuses must communicate with the uterine endometrium if they are to survive and proceed to attachment to the uterine epithelium. more...

Expression data from periparturient bos taurus

(Submitter supplied) The liver of dairy cows naturally displays a series of metabolic adaptation during the periparturient period in response to the increasing nutrient requirement of lactation. The hepatic adaptation is partly regulated by insulin resistance and it is affected by the prepartal energy intake level of cows. We aimed to investigate the metabolic changes in the liver of dairy cows during the periparturient at gene expression level and to study the effect of prepartal energy level on the metabolic adaptation at gene expression level.B13:N13

Transcriptome analysis of the endometrium, placenta, and liver in lactating and non-lactating dairy cows

(Submitter supplied) Infertility in lactating dairy cows is explained partially by the metabolic state associated with high milk production. The hypothesis was that lactating and non-lactating cows would differ in endometrial and placental transcriptomes during early pregnancy (day 28 to 42) and this difference would explain the predisposition for lactating cows to have embryonic loss at that time. Cows were either milked or not milked after calving. more...

Interleukin-6 mediated signaling in adrenal medullary chromaffin cells

(Submitter supplied) Pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFalpha) and interleukin-1beta/alpha (IL1beta/alpha) modulate catecholamine secretion, and long-term gene regulation, in chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla. Interleukin-6 (IL6), also released during inflammation, affects transcriptional responses in primary chromaffin cells, and may coordinate immune and autonomic adrenomedullary responses via an autocrine mechanism, as TNFalpha itself strongly induces IL6 expression in chromaffin cells, which in turn express receptors responsive to IL6. more...

Expression data from somatic cell nuclear transfer bovine embryo

(Submitter supplied) Since the first cloned animal Dolly Sheep was successfully created by using somatic cell nuclear transfer(SCNT) technique. It has become an irreplaceable tool to understand nuclear reprogramming and totipotency and holds huge potentials for regenerative medicine. However, extremely poor development rate of SCNT embryos indicates it is still questionable. The nature of reprogramming oocyte factors and their mechanism of action remain largely unknown. It is evident that the major barrier that hinders the developing iSCNT embryo mainly appears at the time of embryonic genome activation (EGA), which primarily occurs at the eight-cell stage in mammalian. more...

Transcript profiling in the liver of early-lactating dairy cows fed conjugated linoleic acid

(Submitter supplied) In the present study, transcript profiling was carried out in the liver samples from wk 5 of lactation in order to identify genes and pathways regulated by rumen-protected CLA during early lactation. The first wks after parturition represent a critical phase in the productive cycle of high-yielding dairy cows because the liver experiences pronounced metabolic and inflammatory stress which increases the risk to develop liver-associated diseases, such as fatty liver and ketosis.

Gene expression profiling of longissimus dorsi muscle, subcutaneous and abdominal adipose tissues in Yan yellow cattle

(Submitter supplied) Microarray technologies, which can measure the expression of thousands of genes simultaneously are useful in understanding global gene networks and identifying novel genes and functional gene classes. The adipose depots may have various adipogenic state-specific genes and regulations of adipose accretion patterns in beef cattle. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the molecular mechanisms of longissimus dorsi muscle, subcutaneous and abdominal adipose tissue depots in a native Chinese yellow breed by identifying differentially expressed genes using Bovine Genome Array. The GO and pathway analysis further validated differentially expressed genes identified in array analysis.

Whole blood gene expression profiling in preclinical and clinical cattle infected with atypical bovine spongiform encephalopathy.

(Submitter supplied) The molecular events at the basis of prion diseases are characterized by the involvement of several genes which are differentially regulated during the onset and the progression of the infection. Gene expression profiling studies are a powerful tool for the development of preclinical diagnostic tests. Most of the studies performed up to date utilized tissues which are not suitable for a future perspective of a rapid analysis of the infected animals and patients. more...

Expression data from cold stress in Sanhe cattle

(Submitter supplied) While cold stress has been shown to seriously impact cattle industry, there are only a few reports investigating the effect of cold stress on cattle. Whether severe cold stress results in alterations in gene expression and affects molecular genetic mechanisms remains unknown. We used microarrays to analyze the alterations in gene expression in peripheral blood samples in response to cold exposure and identified differentially regulated genes.

Expression data from Day 15 bovine conceptuses

(Submitter supplied) The majority of pregnancy loss in cattle occurs between days 8 and 16 of gestation coincident with the initiation of conceptus elongation and the onset of maternal recognition of pregnancy. Differences in conceptus lengths on the same day of gestation may be related to an inherent lack of developmental competency or may simply be a consequence of asynchrony with the maternal environment. The primary objective of this work was to characterize differential patterns of mRNA expression between short and long bovine conceptuses recovered on Day 15 of gestation. more...

Changes in the transcriptome of bovine ovarian cortex during follicle activation in vitro

(Submitter supplied) A key transition in ovarian follicular development is the activation of resting primordial follicles to the growing primary follicle stage. The signals that regulate activation are still not well understood, especially in non-rodent species. we combined a microarray approach with an in vitro system to gain insight into the regulation of follicle activation. Genes and pathways identified in this study provide interesting candidates for further investigation of mechanisms underlying follicle activation.
