Dosage compensation of Z sex chromosome genes in avian fibroblast cells

(Submitter supplied) Sex in birds is genetically determined, molecular mechanism of which is not well-understood. Their Z sex chromosome (chrZ) lacks whole chromosome inactivation as known for mammalian chrX. To investigate the extent of chrZ dosage compensation and its role in somatic cell’s sex specification, we used a highly-quantitative method and analyzed transcriptional activities of male and female fibroblasts from seven birds. more...

DEF cells infected with NDV

(Submitter supplied) The NDV GM strain was used to infect DEF cells with 1moi, while an uninfected group was set up as a control. Changes in transcript levels of different genes after NDV infection of duck cells were identified by high-throughput sequencing. It is hoped to reveal the unique antiviral mechanism of waterfowl in resisting NDV infection.

Transcriptome Sequencing to Identify Important Genes and lncRNAs Regulating Abdominal Fat Deposition in Ducks

(Submitter supplied) Abdominal fat deposition is an important trait in meat-producing ducks. F2 generations of 304 Cherry Valley and Runzhou Crested White ducks were studied to identify genes and lncRNAs affecting abdominal fat deposition. RNA sequencing was used to study abdominal fat tissue of four ducks each with high or low abdominal fat rates. In all, 336 upregulated and 297 downregu-lated mRNAs, and 95 upregulated and 119 downregulated lncRNAs were identified. more...

Identification of Genes Related to Growth Traits from Transcriptome Profiles of Duck Breast Muscle Tissue

(Submitter supplied) The growth and development of duck skeletal muscle is an important economic trait that is genetically regulated. The internal mechanism underlying the regulation of skeletal muscle growth and development in ducks remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to identify candidate genes related to growth of duck skeletal muscle. RNA-sequencing technology was used to com-pare the transcriptome of duck breast muscles in an F2 population with the high breast muscle rate (HB) and the low breast muscle rate (LB). more...

Genome-wide microRNA profiling and target gene prediction in different embryonic muscle developmental stage of duck breast

(Submitter supplied) The objective of this study is to profile microRNA expressed in embryonic breast muscle of duck, analyze the conservation across multiple species and identify candidate microRNAs associated with duck muscle development. microRNA sequencing analysis was performed using female breast muscle samples at embryonic stage 13th day (E13) and embryonic stage 19th day (E19).

RNASeq of trigeminal ganglia of chicken and wild duck species

(Submitter supplied) A major challenge in biology is to link cellular and molecular variations with behavioral phenotypes. Here, we approached this by studying somatosensory neurons from a panel of bird species from the family Anatidae, known for their tactile-based foraging behavior. We found that tactile specialists exhibit a proportional expansion of neuronal mechanoreceptors in trigeminal ganglia. The expansion of mechanoreceptors occurs via neurons with intermediately and slowly inactivating mechano-current. more...

NANOG is required for the long-term establishment of avian somatic reprogrammed cells [duck]

(Submitter supplied) Purpose: the goal of this study is to analyse various duck stem cell lines and to compare them with both primary somatic fibroblasts and blastodermal cells derived from pre-gastrulating embryos. Methods: NGS RNA-sequencing was performed on duck primary embryonic fibroblasts (DEF), on blastodermal cells from EGK-X to EG XV embryos (BCs) and reprogrammed cells (R71-2 and R71-5) derived from DEF by somatic reprogramming process. more...

Integrative Analysis of the Pekin Duck (Anas anas) MicroRNAome during Feather Follicle Development

(Submitter supplied) The quality and yield of duck feathers are very important economic traits that might be controlled by miRNA regulation. Transcriptomic analysis of ovaries from ducks with high and low egg production

(Submitter supplied) Gene expression differences between the ovaries of Jingding duck with high and low egg production were assessed using the RNA-Seq technology. A total of 843 differentially expressed genes were identified. These genes have known or potential roles in regulation the egg production. Therefore, they are appealing candidates for further investigation of the gene expression and associated regulatory mechanisms related to egg production of ducks.

Deep RNA Sequencing of Pectoralis Muscle Transcriptomes during Late-term Embryonic to Neonatal Development in Indigenous Chinese Duck Breeds

(Submitter supplied) In this project we try to character potential candidate genes and signaling pathways related to PM development during late-term embryonic to neonatal development in indigenous chinese duck breeds. We use RNA-seq to analyse PM samples selected at embryonic days (E) 21 and 27 and 5 days post-hatch (dph) in Gaoyou and Jinding ducks. There were about 45 million clean reads, the total mapped rate was 58.58%–64.82%, and the uniquely mapped rate was 56.21%–63.55%.The results of cluster analysis of DEGs are shown that with the same developmental time nodes superimposed. more...
