Response of potato and tobacco plants to photoperiod changes

(Submitter supplied) Plants of Solanum tuberosum ssp andigena, which tuberize only under SD conditions, were grown in growth chambers under non-inductive LD conditions and half of the plants were transferred to inductive SD conditions for 1 or 15 days, whilst the rest of the plants were kept as controls in LD. Transgenic potato plants with reduced phyB levels, which tuberize irrespective of photoperiod, were also grown in LD conditions. more...

PFT1, the MED25 subunit of the plant Mediator complex, promotes flowering through CONSTANS dependent and independent mechanisms in Arabidopsis

(Submitter supplied) Two aspects of light are very important for plant development: the length of the light phase or photoperiod and the quality of incoming light. Photoperiod detection allows plants to anticipate the arrival of the next season, whereas light quality, mainly the red to far-red ratio (R:FR), is an early signal of competition by neighbouring plants. phyB represses flowering by antagonising CO at the transcriptional and post-translational levels. more...

ATH1 Transcriptome profiling of dark grown photoreceptor mutants seedlings of Arabidopsis

(Submitter supplied) Phytochromes mediate a profound developmental shift when dark-grown seedlings are exposed to light. Here we show that a subset of genes is up regulated in phytochrome B (phyB) mutants even before dark-grown seedlings are exposed to light. Most of these genes bear the RY cis motif, which is a binding site of the transcription factor ABSCISIC ACID INSENSITIVE 3 (ABI3), and the phyB mutation also enhanced ABI3 expression. more...

Photoperiod regulation of grape bud dormancy

(Submitter supplied) Bud endodormancy induction response of two genotypes (‘Seyval’ a hybrid white wine grape and V. riparia, PI588259 a native north american species) was compared under long (15h) and short (13h) photoperiod. Three separate replicates (5 plants/replicate) were treated to generate paradormant (LD) and same aged endodormancy-induced (SD) buds for transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic analysis. Potted, spur-pruned two to six-year-old vines were removed from cold storage (Seyval 3-19-07; V. more...

Microarray analysis of Arabidopsis Col-0 and catalase 2 mutant define interactions between CO2, daylength and H2O2

(Submitter supplied) Growth daylength, ambient CO2 level, and intracellular hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) availability all impact plant function by modulating signalling pathways, but interactions between them remain unclear. Using a whole-genome transcriptomics approach, we exploited the conditional photorespiratory nature of the catalase-deficient cat2 mutant to identify gene expression patterns responding to these three factors. more...

Antagonistic action of PHYA and PHYB is involved in FR-dependent leaf senescence in Arabidopsis accessions

(Submitter supplied) Sensing environmental changes is important for survival of plants, as sessile organisms, in habi-tat. Recently, latitudinal clines in leaf senescence have been reported to be influenced by tem-perature and photoperiod. However, the relationship of light quality with latitudinal response of leaf senescence is still unclear. Here, we found that Arabidopsis accessions in far-red (FR) showed a strong negative correlation of leaf senescence with the latitude of their origin. more...
