MicroRNA expression in medulloepitheliomas

(Submitter supplied) Purpose: To study the differential expression of microRNA (miRNA) profiles between intraocular medulloepithelioma (ME) and normal control tissue. Material and methods: Total RNA was extracted from formalin fixed paraffin-embedded intraocular ME (n=7) and from age matched ciliary body controls (n=8). The clinical history and phenotype was recorded. MiRNA profiles were determined using the Affymetrix® GeneChip® miRNA Arrays analyzed using expression console 1.3 software. more...

Comparative microarray analysis of microRNA expression profiles in primary cutaneous malignant melanoma, cutaneous malignant melanoma metastases and benign melanocytic naevi

(Submitter supplied) Perturbations in microRNA (miRNA) expression profiles has been reported for cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM). With regards to a rapidly growing number of newly discovered miRNA sequences, the availability of up-to-date miRNA expression profiles for primary cutaneous malignant melanoma (PCMM), cutaneous malignant melanoma metastases (CMMM) and benign melanocytic naevi (BMN) is limited. Patients with PCMM (n=9), CMMM (n=4) and BMN (n=8) were included in the study. more...

All triple-negative breast cancer samples were invasive ductal carcinomas (IDC) and were negative in immunohistochemical statuses of ER, PR, and HER2 receptors, as confirmed by professional pathologists. Treatment procedure of all patients followed the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guideline. more...

Microarray analysis of microRNA expression in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma

(Submitter supplied) MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a novel class of short RNAs which have shown to be dysregulated in a variety of cancers including squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the head&neck. Microarray based miRNA expression profiles of cutaneous SCC (cSCC) however have not been investigated so far. Seven patients with cutaneous SCC were enrolled in the study. Tumor biopsies (n=7) were taken from the center of the tumor. more...

MicroRNA expression profiling in GC-2 cells following 50 Hz ELF-EMF

(Submitter supplied) Aberrant miRNA expression has been related to the development of human germ cell tumors, but little is known about effect of ELF-EMFs on miRNA expression. ELF-EMFs may epigenetically modify cells, which may account for the adverse effects of ELF-EMFs on the male reproductive system. To identify miRNAs that were differentially expressed between the sham and ELF-EMF exposure groups, we performed an Affymetrix microarray analysis to establish the miRNA expression profiles.

MIRnome Profiling of Hereditary Pheochromocytoma and Paraganglioma Reveals Specific Signatures According to Primary Mutation: Possible Implications in the Differentiation Status of Tumor Cells

(Submitter supplied) Pheochromocytoma (PCC) and paraganglioma (PGL) are rare neuroendocrine neoplasias of neural crest origin. They can be part of several syndromes, and their mRNA profile is dependent on genetic background, but questions related to clinical behavior or even main location remain unanswered. MicroRNAs are key modulators of target genes through translational repression, mRNA degradation, or both, and therefore they could resolve some of these issues. more...

An integrative analysis of renal miRNA- and mRNA-expression signatures in progressive chronic kidney disease [validation cohort]

(Submitter supplied) MicroRNAs (miRNAs) contribute to chronic kidney disease progression via negatively regulating mRNA abundance. However, their association with clinical outcome remains poorly understood. We performed large-scale miRNA and mRNA expression profiling on cryo-cut renal biopsy sections from a discovery (n=43) and a validation (n=29) cohort. In the discovery cohort (GEO Series accession number GSE45980), miRNAs differentiating stable and progressive cases were determined, and putative target mRNAs showing inversely correlated expression profiles were identified. more...

We performed large scale miRNA and mRNA expression profiling on cryo-cut renal biopsy sections from n=43 subjects. miRNAs differentiating stable and progressive cases were determined, and putative target mRNAs showing inversely correlated expression profiles were identified and further characterized. more...

Microarray analysis of microRNA expression in basal cell carcinoma

(Submitter supplied) Perturbations in the expression profiles of microRNAs (miRNAs) have been reported for a variety of different cancers. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) of the skin has not been systematically evaluated regarding differentially expressed miRNAs. Patients with BCC (n=7) were included in the study. Punch biopsies were harvested from the center of the tumors (lesional, n=7) and from sites of adjacent non-lesional skin (intraindividual control, n=7). more...

MicroRNA expression profiling on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue blocks of human adrenal pheochromocytomas

(Submitter supplied) MicroRNAs are involved in the pathogenesis of several tumors, however, there have been no data on microRNA expression in pheochromocytomas to date. In this study we have performed microRNA expression profiling in sporadic benign, hereditary benign (multiplex endocrine neoplasia type 2-related and von Hippel-Lindau syndrome-related pheochromocytomas), and sporadic recurring adrenomedullary tumors. Due to the rarity of these neoplasms, the retrieval of sufficient quantities of fresh or immediately snap frozen tumor samples is difficult, therefore the applicability of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue samples for the analysis of microRNA expression in pheochromocytomas was examined.
