Skin Transcriptomics of Common Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) from the Northern Gulf of Mexico and Southeastern U.S. Atlantic Coasts

(Submitter supplied) Common bottlenose dolphins serve as sentinels for the health of their coastal environments as they are susceptible to health impacts from anthropogenic inputs through both direct exposure and food web magnification. Remote biopsy samples have been widely used to reveal contaminant burdens in free-ranging bottlenose dolphins, but do not address the health consequences of this exposure. To gain insight into whether remote biopsies can also identify health impacts associated with contaminant burdens, we employed RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) to interrogate the transcriptomes of remote skin biopsies from 116 bottlenose dolphins from the northern Gulf of Mexico and southeastern U.S. more...

Seasonal Variation in the Skin Transcriptome of Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus)

(Submitter supplied) As apex predators, cetaceans are recognized as sentinels for the health of marine ecosystems. The ability to identify the impacts of anthropogenic contamination on the health of a species requires long term monitoring to establish baseline health parameters. This makes health measurements that can be sampled from free ranging animals highly desirable. In the current study, we investigate the utility of skin gene expression profiling to monitor the physiological, health, and contaminant exposure status in bottlenose dolphins. more...

Transcriptome analysis reveals the genetic basis underlying the seasonal development of keratinized nuptial spines in Leptobrachium boringii

(Submitter supplied) The goal of this study is to compare NGS-derived transcriptome profiling (RNA-seq) from three tissues of L. boringii between two critical periods of the spine growth cycle, and to identify potential genes regulating the seasonal development of nuptial spines in L. boringii. Single-base resolution DNA methylation profiles of two highly inbred chicken lines, Leghorn and Fayoumi, by whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (MethylC-seq).

(Submitter supplied) Here we provided the first single-base resolution DNA methylatome in chicken lungs by whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (MethylC-seq). In addition, two genetically distinct highly inbred chicken lines, Leghorn and Fayoumi, were used to examine how DNA methylation regulates mRNA gene expression between two lines. The methylation profile demonstrated that methylcytosines in the chicken were more likely to occur in CG dinucleotides than in non-CG sites. more...

Expression data from blood of healthy controls and ns vitiligo patients

(Submitter supplied) Vitiligo Blood Transcriptomics Provides New Insights into Disease Mechanisms and Identifies Potential Novel Therapeutic Targets Abstract Background: Significant gaps remain regarding the pathomechanisms underlying the autoimmune response in vitiligo (VL), where the loss of self-tolerance leads to the targeted killing of melanocytes. Specifically, there is incomplete information regarding alterations in the systemic environment that are relevant to the disease state. more...

Variation in RNA-Seq transcriptome profiles of peripheral whole blood from healthy individuals with and without globin depletion

(Submitter supplied) In this study we aimed to assess technical variability associated with globin depletion in addition to assessing general technical variability in RNA-Seq from whole blood derived samples. We compared technical and biological replicates having undergone globin depletion or not and found that globin depletion removed approximately 80% of globin transcripts, improved the correlation of technical replicates, allowed for reliable detection of thousands of additional transcripts and generally increased transcript abundance measures.
