RNA-seq analysis of total RNA from inflorescence stems of Arabidopsis Col-0, ccr-1, fer-4 and ccr-1/fer-4

(Submitter supplied) A. thaliana lines with reduced lignin content through down-regulation of the lignin biosynthesis enzymes cinnamoyl CoA reductase (CCR) exhibit extensive cell wall remodeling which results in the release of a mixture of pectic oligosaccharide elicitors of pathogenesis-related (PR) protein gene expression through the salicylic acid signaling pathway. Loss of function of FERONIA, a CrRLK1-like subfamily receptor-like kinase resulted in loss of PR-1, -2 and- 5 gene activation in stems of the ccr1/fer-4 double mutant.

Expression data from elicitor-treated Arabidopsis seedling roots [3h]

(Submitter supplied) Plants can perceive the presence of pathogens at the cell surface and plant damage-derived molecules via recognition of conserved microbial molecules, named pathogen- or microbe-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and damage associated molecular patterns (DAMPs). Well-studied examples of PAMPs are chito-oligomers, breakdown products of fungal cell walls and insect exoskeletons. Pectin-derived oligogalacturonides (OGs) are well-characterized DAMPs. more...

Identification of genes involved in cell wall integrity signalling in Arabidopsis dark-grown hypocotyls

(Submitter supplied) Inhibition of cellulose synthesis by chemical inhibitors or in a mutant background leads to rapid inhibition of cell elongation. This inhibition appears to be an active process, which involves feedback signalling from the cell wall. We have isolated two loci THE1 and THE2, which are identified by mutations that partially suppress the dark-grown hypocotyl phenotype in a mutant background for cellulose synthase catalytic subunit CESA6/PROCUSTE1. more...

A Lignin Molecular Brace Controls Precision Processing of Cell Wall Critical for Surface Integrity in Arabidopsis

(Submitter supplied) The cell wall is a defining feature of plant cells and glues cells to each other. To overcome this physical constraint, plants must process and disconnect cell wall linkages during growth and development. However, little is known about the mechanism guiding cell-cell detachment and cell wall remodeling. Here, we identify two neighboring cell types in Arabidopsis that coordinate their activities to control cell wall processing, thereby ensuring precise abscission to discard organs. more...

Arabidopsis thaliana Growth is Negatively Regulated by the Class III Peroxidase AtPrx71 during Development and in Response to Cell Wall Damage

(Submitter supplied) The cell wall is a crucial structure in plant cells, and modifications in its composition often have a major impact on growth and development. However, the molecular mechanisms responsible for the negative effects of cell wall alterations on plant growth are largely unknown. It was previously shown that a reduction in the levels of de-esterified homogalacturonan, a major pectin component of cell walls, in Arabidopsis thaliana plants expressing a fungal polygalacturonase or mutated in the QUASIMODO2 gene (qua2-1 plants), cause severe growth defects. more...

Downregulation of cinnamoyl-coenzyme A reductase in maize (affy_ccr_maize)

(Submitter supplied) affy_ccr_maize - affy_ccr_maize - Cinnamoyl-CoA reductase (CCR) catalyzes a key step in monolignol biosynthesis. We show that downregulation of CCR in maize was associated with lower lignin content and a strong decrease in H units. Concomitantly, these cell wall modifications were associated with higher digestibility. On another hand, immunocytochemistry indicated a modification of lignification pattern and cellulose content. more...
