Transcriptome dynamics of mutualistic poxvirus infection of tropical fruit fly hosts

(Submitter supplied) Parasitoid wasps are one of the most species-rich groups of animals on Earth, due to their ability to successfully develop as parasites of nearly all types of insects. Unlike most known parasitoid wasps that specialize within one or a few host species, Diachasmimorpha longicaudata is a generalist that can survive within multiple genera of tephritid fruit fly hosts, including many globally important pest species. more...

The widely conserved microRNA, miR-1-3p, is a male-determining factor in the oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis

(Submitter supplied) We constructed three small RNA libraries from embryos at 5, 6 and 7 post-oviposition (hpo) of Bactrocera dorsalis for deep sequencing. The data analysis revealed 147 known and 103 novel miRNAs from these libraries.

Transcriptome analysis of the oriental fruit fly Bactrocera dorsalis early embryos

(Submitter supplied) We constructed three RNA libraries from embryos at 0-1, 2-4 and 5-8 post-oviposition (hpo) of Bactrocera dorsalis for deep sequencing. Using an Illumina HiSeq 2500 platform, we mapped more than 83, 85 and 98 million sequence reads from 0-1, 2-4 and 5-8 hour embryos respectively, and identified a total of 13,489 unigenes. 1683, 3201 and 3134 unigenes showed differential expression between the 0-1 and 2-4 hour embryos, the 0-1 and 5-8 hour embryos, and the 2-4 and 5-8 hour embryos respectively.

Identification and characterization of sex-biased microRNAs in Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel)

(Submitter supplied) We constructed four small RNA libraries from whole body of females, males (except ovaries and testes) and ovaries, testes of B. dorsalis for deep sequencing. The data analysis revealed 314 known and 221 novel miRNAs from these libraries. 14 female-biased and 12 male-biased miRNAs that may be involved in sexual differentiation were found by comparing the miRNA expression profiles in the four libraries.

Deep sequencing of small RNA libraries reveals dynamic expression patterns of miRNAs in multiple developmental stages of Bactrocera dorsalis

(Submitter supplied) Four developmental stage small RNA libraries including Eggs, Larvae, Pupae and Adults were constructed, where a lot of known miRNAs were identified and many novel miRNAs were predicted. Comparison of their expression profiles in the four libraries suggested that Bactrocera dorsalis miRNAs are dynamically regulated throughout the life cycle.Further analysis of the expression and function of these miRNAs could increase our understanding of regulatory networks in the insect and lead to novel approaches to its control.
