Comparative microarray analysis of microRNA expression profiles in primary cutaneous malignant melanoma, cutaneous malignant melanoma metastases and benign melanocytic naevi

(Submitter supplied) Perturbations in microRNA (miRNA) expression profiles has been reported for cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM). With regards to a rapidly growing number of newly discovered miRNA sequences, the availability of up-to-date miRNA expression profiles for primary cutaneous malignant melanoma (PCMM), cutaneous malignant melanoma metastases (CMMM) and benign melanocytic naevi (BMN) is limited. Patients with PCMM (n=9), CMMM (n=4) and BMN (n=8) were included in the study. more...

Microarray analysis of microRNA expression in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma

(Submitter supplied) MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a novel class of short RNAs which have shown to be dysregulated in a variety of cancers including squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the head&neck. Microarray based miRNA expression profiles of cutaneous SCC (cSCC) however have not been investigated so far. Seven patients with cutaneous SCC were enrolled in the study. Tumor biopsies (n=7) were taken from the center of the tumor. more...

Microarray analysis of microRNA expression in basal cell carcinoma

(Submitter supplied) Perturbations in the expression profiles of microRNAs (miRNAs) have been reported for a variety of different cancers. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) of the skin has not been systematically evaluated regarding differentially expressed miRNAs. Patients with BCC (n=7) were included in the study. Punch biopsies were harvested from the center of the tumors (lesional, n=7) and from sites of adjacent non-lesional skin (intraindividual control, n=7). more...

MicroRNA Profiling Analysis of Differences between the Melanoma of Young Adults and Older Adults

(Submitter supplied) This study represents the first attempt to perform a profiling analysis of the intergenerational differences in the microRNAs (miRNAs) of melanocytic neoplasms in young adult and older adult groups. Our comparative miRNA profiling provides a novel characterization of the miRnomes of melanocytic neoplasms and melanomas of different age groups and identifies a set of potential diagnostic and potential clinico-pathologic biomarkers that may serve as targets for development of novel miR-based modalities in cancer diagnosis and treatment. more...

Characterization of B- and T-lineage ALL by Integrated Analysis of microRNA and mRNA Expression Profiles

(Submitter supplied) Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is an heterogeneous disease comprising several subentities that differ for both immunophenotypic and molecular characteristics. Over the years, the biologic understanding of this neoplasm has largely increased. Gene expression profiling has recently allowed to identify specific signatures for the different ALL subsets and permitted identification of pathways deregulated by a given lesion. more...

Human myeloma cell lines gene expression profiling

(Submitter supplied) In order to investigate the patterns of genetic lesions in a panel of 23 Human Multiple Myeloma Cell Lines (HMCLs), we made a genomic integrative analysis involving FISH and both gene expression and genome-wide profiling approaches. The expression profiles of the genes targeted by the main IGH translocations showed that the WHSC1/MMSET gene involved in t(4;14)(p16;q32) was expressed at different levels in all of the HMCLs, and that the expression of the MAF gene was not restricted to the HMCLs carrying t(14;16)(q32;q23). more...

MicroRNA Expression Profiles Associated with Mutational Status and Survival in Malignant Melanoma

(Submitter supplied) In order to improve our understanding of microRNA (miRNA) deregulation in melanoma development and possible consequences for patient survival, miRNA expression profiles were determined, using an array based approach, in melanoma tumors, melanoma cell lines and normal melanocytes. Differentially expressed miRNAs were evaluated in relation to clinical characteristics, patient prognosis in terms of melanoma-specific survival, and mutational status for BRAF and NRAS.

MicroRNA Profiling Identifies Potential Diagnostic and Prognostic Markers in Prostate Cancer

(Submitter supplied) Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States and Europe. Diagnosis and risk estimation of cancer recurrence is often critical with the common clinicopathologic parameters of prostate-specific antigen, tumor stage and grade. Therefore it is mandatory to develop new diagnostic and prognostic markers for prostate cancer. miRNAs have been shown to be novel markers in a series of other cancer types. more...

Sixty-eight samples from leprotic lesions (10TT, 10BT, 10BB, 10BL, 4LL, 14R1, and 10R2) and nine skin biopsies from healthy individuals were used as controls (CC) (ages ranged from 06 to 83 years, 48 were male and 29 female). more...

Gene expression signatures in a human bladder cancer cell line SW780 transfected with miR-137 precursor molecule

(Submitter supplied) To clarify the effect of miRNAs, we carried out a gene expression microarray analysis of SW780 cells transfected with a miR-137 precursor or a negative control. We found that 1,326 probe sets (1,016 unique genes) were downregulated (>2-fold) by ectopic miR-137 expression, including the previously reported miR-137 target genes CDK6, CDC42 and AURKA. Moreover, Gene Ontology analysis revealed that genes related to the cell cycle were significantly enriched among the affected genes.

Patterns of miRNA expression in primary plasma cell leukemias: implications for tumor progression in multiple myeloma

(Submitter supplied) Primary plasma cell leukemia (pPCL) is a rare and very aggressive form of plasma cell dyscrasias. To date, no information of microRNA expression in pPCL has been reported. To investigate the role of miRNAs in pPCL, we analyzed global miRNA expression profiles of highly purified malignant plasma cells from 18 previously untreated patients included in a prospective clinical trial. MiRNA expression patterns were evaluated in the context of the molecular abnormalities of the disease and in comparison with a representative cohort of multiple myeloma (MM) patients. more...

microRNa expression profiling in adrenal myelolipoma, adrenocortical carcinoma and adrenocortical adenoma

(Submitter supplied) Background: Adrenal myelolipoma (AML) is a relatively common and invariably benign tumor composed of adipose tissue and hematopoietic elements. Due to the variable proportion of fat and hematopoietic elements, it is sometimes challenging to differentiate AML from adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC). MicroRNAs have been identified as promising biomarkers in many tumors, including adrenocortical neoplasms, but the microRNA expression of adrenal myelolipoma has not been investigated, yet. more...
